Situation: Customer
needs
significant cost reduction
A contract manufacturer came to CBM with a high cost linear block and
rail assembly. The end user
specified a popular catalog house part number and the cost of the part from
the catalog house was over $1000.00 at 45 pieces.
Knowing that the catalog house was not the manufacturer of the part,
CBM began a search of linear rail manufacturers and found the part direct.
By purchasing the part through its original source, CBM was able to
offer the customer a 30% cost savings over the catalog house price.
Lead time was also improved by 4 weeks to get the project going within
the schedule dictated by the end user.
Situation: Customer is having continual quality
problems with case hardened shafting
A manufacturer of paper handling machinery
asked CBM for help with a problem on shafting applications in their various
assemblies. The customer had
worked with several different manufacturers directly to solve a problem with
straightness. The customer was
constantly rejecting parts because the received lots were inconsistent.
Many of the parts were out of tolerance.
Because
these shafts are used in a high speed application, it is imperative that the
shafts be straight and in tolerance.
CBM worked with their primary case hardened shafting supplier to
develop a 100% inspection for straightness.
The result was reducing the rejected lots to 0% and also reducing the
problem of unnecessary wear of mating parts in the customer’s assembly.
Situation:
Customer is having difficulty determining
part numbers for ordering
A pipeline manufacturer approached CBM to help
solve a problem with identification of a part.
One of their machines used to produce parts for a pipeline project
broke down. One of the parts
needed was a large linear rail assembly. The
customer had no idea what the part was and was unable to identify it on their
own.
CBM asked the customer to ship the worn out assembly to their facility
so the part could be reverse engineered for identification purposes.
Once CBM received the part, a factory engineer was brought in to help
with the part number coding. CBM,
in conjunction with the factory representative, identified the correct part
number and shipped the customer the new assembly within 3 weeks.
The quick turnaround time helped the customer finish the pipeline
project within the deadline.
